Orange, which originates in France, has recently announced some great news. In the last few months they have been able to double their broadband customer base. The mobile broadband market and data service has been growing since they started it two quarters ago. They have been able to get more customers to subscribe to their network, by including the EDGE and 3G technology that they just introduced a little over sixth months ago. Out of the 111.9 million customers that they have total, about 14.8 million of them are now part of the broadband service. 8.2 million of these individuals are living in France. In the first quarter of the launch orange mobile broadband had only 7.2 million customers. Studies have shown that these numbers make up 13.2 percent of their total customer base, which is one of the largest polls for broadband users with a single company.
Orange’s data revenues are also up from the first of the year. Data services include SMS messaging which has accounted for 20.3 percent of the network revenue in the first quarter alone. They have increased this amount by 3 percent since last year in the first quarter.
France is not the only country that is growing in the data services industry. The UK and Poland are seeing like numbers for the increase. They had 23.6 percent increase on data service and 21.7 percent on their network revenue. Last year they were at 21.7 percent and 22.1 percent respectively. In Spain data service is up 12.9 percent for network revenue.
Orange sold over 100,000 iPhones at the end of March. They didn’t say, however, if they would launch the 3G version of the device and how much that might contribute to their earnings overall. The dual mode mobile access devices that have been sold in France are up to 900,000 since the end of March. This is a pretty high number for phone sales.
The total revenue earnings in the first quarter has been 7 billion Euros, which is up by 1.9 percent since last year. Last year was 6.93 billion Euros. They have also seen a 2.2 million increase in their customer base since the beginning of this year. These numbers have greatly surprised many in the investment market, and they figure Orange will continue to advance as they have done in the beginning of the year, especially if they launch new technology.
