Virgin Media has just announced that they are going to offer mobile broadband in a bit of a different light. They are coming out with a new USB modem for their mobile broadband consumers. Virgin Media is hoping to offer an improved dongle to the UK consumer that will allow for faster speeds. This new product is in conjunction with T- Mobile who will also have the technology for their consumers. The product is set to release by Christmas of 2008. Added to the new device Virgin Mobile Broadband is also offering a unique bid to compete with the other companies. At the moment Virgin has 3.78 million broadband consumers and they want to offer more mobile broadband in a package deal.
O2 is one of their competitors that has just released a new package as well. O2 is offering 20 pounds for their 3GB package with 3G or WiFi mobile broadband. However this is nothing compared to Vodafone.
Vodafone, according to the UK market, is the top company offering mobile broadband internet at the moment. A study is showing that Vodafone has the fastest mobile broadband on the market than any other. This means they are leaving behind the competition in the consumer network.
Vodafone works with an independent wireless company on an international level. The firm offers 1.2 Mbps that can download 2MB files at 77 percent faster than other operators on the market.
The speed test showed 28,000 with a 278 percent higher rate for opening web pages than the competition. Neil Smith the president of the company states that Vodafone really is the top with the faster and more reliable speeds for downloading files and web pages.
Jeni Mundy, the CTO for Vodafone, added that they have seen an increase in improvement for speed and this means they can spread to other areas of the country to get more consumers. These new consumers should be signed up by fall so that they too can have the better speeds with the new USB modem. The pricing is also going to be fair to the current market rates to ensure this increase in customer base.
With the changes in Mobile Broadband to where it may be free by 2009 for the signal added to the improvements to the devices, Vodafone could stay on top for the next year or more. Other companies are working to get the same rankings as Vodafone in order to surpass them, but as of yet there has been little headway in the issue.
More consumers are signing up for the mobile broadband as it stands right now because they want the convenience of being anywhere and logging on to the internet. It certainly helps that more advertisements regarding the mobile broadband have been released on the market in the last few months.
The increase is being seen at the million consumer level and could be double what it is now by the end of the year, with the consumers signing up with Vodafone and their new technology.
