Downloading Ban for 3 Mobile Consumers

For a long time, roaming charges have been attached to the mobile broadband service.  These charges are used for anyone who uses their computer abroad to surf the net.  They still get to use the mobile broadband service, but because they were out of the country roaming charges were applied.  Even if the area of the person’s home was left they would be charged for roaming.  The European Union has seen a problem with these roaming charges.  They have threatened to make legal ramifications for the roaming charges to be charged to consumers who are overseas on the network.

Mobile 3 or the operator 3 has been looking for ways out of the legal charges that could be imposed because of the roaming charges they were charging their consumers.  They have decided instead to ban all consumers from using their mobile broadband while they are out of the country.  In other words instead of seeing a huge bill when the consumers arrive back home from roaming charges, they just can’t use the mobile broadband at all.

The ban will affect any of the 3’s dongle users and mobile phone users that access the internet.  The consumers can be asked for the ban to be lifted aware of the roaming charges they will get for the use.  The company is also looking into a credit limit on the account.  In other words the mobile broadband can be used up to a certain limit by the consumer.  Once that limit is reached the ban will be put back in place.  This is in an effort to stop any legal action by the European Union.

The fact is that many of the consumers were initially told about the roaming charges when they signed the agreement.  However, many still suffered from sticker shock over the fact that the charges quickly added up for a small vacation.  For those who need to access mobile broadband abroad and while on vacation it is best to use the hotel options.  If you have a laptop the wireless connection is available in most areas.

For now it seems the roaming charges are under control as the company had to take measures to stop the mobile users from racking up the charges.  The downloads were for anything from email checking to bank account checks.  This meant that the consumers did need to access the internet and were not abusing their phones.

The EU may allow for a more moderate roaming charge to be put in place by companies.  It will depend on the investigation they have going into the account proceedings.  Those who did get the high charges are being given a chance to pay off the charges in a slower manner to avoid more repercussions.  They do have to pay the charges though, and any attempt to not pay will lead in CCJ’s or other legal action by 3 to get the money owed back.  It is a situation that everyone should be warned against so that they don’t come home to anything unpleasant.
