BT Launches Similar to the iPhone

BT Group is trying to stay on the mobile market with their new phone.  They have just launched a new product that could be a buddy to the Blackberry or iPhones released earlier in the year.  The smart phone by Rim and Apple has made BT create their own called the ToGo.  This allows the customers to access the internet and make calls, but the BT phone automatically switches between the internet and mobile network depending on where the user is.

The ToGo phone has a new broadband package to accompany it.  The BT Total Broadband Anywhere is running off of the BT home hub broadband network that is inside the home.  They are also using WiFi zones and a mobile network.  The mobile network is off of Vodafone.  This creates a lesser strength for the internet when out and about.  Customers will get unlimited access to the internet through the home, or in the Wifi zones and hotspots.  There are also a limited number of free mobile minutes and texts with the package.  To add to the phones appeal is the 10MB limit of data they can download.

The ToGo phone was made in Taiwan by HTC.  It also uses the cheaper VOIP or voice over internet protocol.  Most of the time, you will get the broadband speeds.  It just gets a little slow when you are not located near a tower or hotspot.

Customers will have their own mobile phone number, or they can have a ported number from their current mobile phone provider.  It just depends on whether you want to keep the number you already have, or get a new one to pass around.

Currently BT has 4.25 million customers and 25 percent of the market share.  This makes them the largest UK broadband market at the moment.  Virgin Media and Carphone Warehouse’s TalkTalk is the runner up in this competition.

However, despite its growth and being the largest company BT still doesn’t have its own mobile network, which is quite different from the rest of the European competitors.  They are still using Cellnet as its mobile network.

BT has finally gotten into the game with the 3G mobile broadband for laptops and other products, with their anywhere broadband product.  It is definitely a company to watch in the near future to find out what they will do next.  This is not the first time they have had to try entering the mobile market again with a new approach.  They were slipping in 2005, in which they launched the 2005 BT Fusion.  This helped them get back on the top, but of course it was less attractive than other products on the market.
